FAQ re: Listing at WebWeaver

What type of sites does WebWeaver list?

Any site that may appeal to the diverse interests of the pagan community.

What type of sites does WebWeaver refuse to list?

Incomplete sites. Sites that disparage or promote the degradation of any cultural, religious, lifestyle or ethic group or any site specifically slandering another individual, group, tradition or organization. Also prohibited are sites that promote any illegal activity or present content that may be damaging to servers. WebWeaver staff does reserve the right to refuse the listing of any site for any reason.

Can I list a site that is not my own?

That would be great, thank you! Simply, Suggest a Site. Suggested sites will be sent to our editors for review prior to listing. Please note that by suggesting a site you do not gain the ability to alter the listing in anyway.

How do I get MY site listed?

Read this FAQ, then log in and follow the instructions!

How are search results determined?

WebWeaver returns results based solely on the keywords provided by webcrafters when they submit their site. If keywords are spammed into site descriptions the submission will be summarily rejected, we will no longer manually remove spammed in keywords, it's a waste of our time.

What are quality keywords?

Those that refer directly to the content of your site. They should be as specific as possible and worded in multiple ways to account for the various terms users will query. For example, if you have a page about gemstones, consider including "stones, gems, gemstones, minerals, polished stones, rough stones, etc" when submitting your keywords.

Generic keywords, such as "witch, witchcraft, wicca, pagan, etc" are all but useless because they are used so often that a search for "witch" produces over 150 results. Your site will surely get lost in such a long list and sadly this number is growing as more and more people list with WebWeaver without bothering to read the FAQ.

What makes a good site description?

A good site description entices people to visit your site, if they like what they see in the description they are more likely to visit. The description is one that accurately portrays what your site offers or is all about, it is well written and it is free of grammar and spelling errors. Who's going to trust a site that misspells "altar" in its description? Who's going to stay on a site that doesn't offer what the description claimed it did? People are looking for things when they search, they aren't looking to be misled and if they are, they'll get annoyed and leave the site.

We do not allow keywords to be spammed into site descriptions. We used to sit here and manually remove the long lists that people tried to slide by, we won't do that anymore. We'll just reject the listing. Besides, have you ever been attracted to visit a site whose description read: "altar, alter, altar tools, boline, boleen, white-handled knife, blah, blah, blah"?

My site has 100 pages, Why aren't they all listed with WebWeaver like they are with Google?

WebWeaver lists the index page of sites or pages that offer a different service than the main index page. Once a visitor arrives at the index page of a website, they should be able to get anywhere on that site. It is up to the webcrafters who list with WebWeaver to create quality keywords that will direct visitors to their sites and to make their own site easy to navigate so visitors can find their way to what they were looking for.

Also, after a site has been included in WebWeaver, we will attempt to index multiple pages within that site. If we are successful and pages within a site are relevant to the search term, they will be included below a site's main return. These additional pages can be accessed by clicking the + to the left of the main listing. This additional feature will not take the place of quality keywords, in fact without quality keywords the site would not have been returned as a result to a query in the first place.

How many different categories or subcategories can my site be listed in?

3

Can I change the category my site is listed in?

No, but you can request the change by emailing us with your site URL, current category and desired category. Please allow a few days for us to make the necessary changes.

Can I add a banner to my listing?

Absolutely! A reciprocal link is now required in exchange for us displaying your banner…fair is fair, after all. Follow these simple steps and we will be happy to add your banner to your listing.

Place one of our banners on your site, a variety of banners and the accompanying code can be found on Link to Us. Then Log in so you can manage your listing(s) and upload your 468x60px or 234x60px .png, .jpg or .gif banner to our server. Your banner will appear once it has been approved and the reciprocal link confirmed (usually within 1-2 days).

Please note, this is a policy change. Sites listed under the previous policy will be grandfathered in.

What is a Featured Site?

Featured Site banners appear not only along with the site's listing in the directory and search result pages but they get top billing in the rotation that appears on WebWeaver's main page.

How do I become a Featured Site?

All you need to do is place a WebWeaver banner on the index page, it can be in a rotation, a marquee, etc as long as it is located on the main page of your site. Upload your site's banner (max size 468x60px). Provide us with the url of your site so we can verify the reciprocal link. Once the reciprocal link has confirmed, your banner will be added to the Featured Site rotation.

If the reciprocal link is found to be missing in the future, your banner will be removed from the Featured Site rotation without notification. As we said earlier, fair is fair.

Please note, this is a policy change. Sites listed under the previous policy but do not meet the new qualification will be grandfathered in as Arachne's Friends.

What if I don't have a banner for my site?

There are alot of free banner creators out there, QuickBanner, Banner Break, Banner Sketch, CoolText, 3D TextMaker, Banner Generator, Open Eye Banner Generator and AdDesigner just to name a few. You can also type "free banner creator" into your favorite generic search engine and get a myriad of options from which to choose.

Where did my banner go?

If the required reciprocal link is found to be non-existent in the future your banner will be removed from your listing and / or the Featured Site rotation without notification.

Arachne's Picks are displayed at the bottom of each and every page within WebWeaver, so being picked by Arachne means more exposure for your site. How do you get picked? WordWeaver sites must be active listings in the main WebWeaver Pagan Search Directory. Once you have logged in to your account, see the Promos tab in the User Panel for more info.

Why has my listing been deleted?

Because at the time Arachne hit your site to verify that it was still up and running, either a 404 was returned, she was forwarded along to another url or your site was under extensive construction which rendered it invalid. Please make sure that all information associated with your listing is correct and up-to-date.

You just delete sites without warning?

No, sites are first placed on Hold status if they appear broken during link checks. Hold status removes them from the search results and directory but maintains the listing information associated with that site. Sites placed on Hold are checked at random intervals over the following 30 days, if the site continues to return invalid, it is then deleted entirely.

How often do you check for broken links?

Arachne gets annoyed at the dead links that inevitably clutter the web when webcrafters allow their sites to close but don't bother to inform other sites that link to them. So every now and again, she announces at New Moon Risings that a link verification is in progress then sets about manually verifying each and every listing. Manually checking so many sites is a long and arduous process, you can help by keeping your listing up to date and taking a moment to Report Dead Links. Thank you.
