About Us
WebWeaver is a specialty directory and search engine specifically designed to meet the needs of the pagan/ occult community. Unique tools help webcrafters promote their sites and help visitors find exactly what they are looking for.
WebWeaver was created completely from the ground up using PHP and MySQL. It does not use another search engine’s API or crawl other searches for listings. All entries are human edited. We make a concerted effort to include sites and categories that may appeal to the modern pagan community's wide range of interests.
Why Bother?
The idea to create WebWeaver came about when so many pagan and occult search engines began closing shop. Omphalus and Avatar Search, among others, linked us to sites that were actually useful rather than to retail sites like so many other general search engines were beginning to do.
Are you real people?
Hold on… *pinch* *pinch* *pinch* *virtual pinch* "OW!" "Ouch!" "Hey!" "What the @#*%?" Yep, we're real people alright and we spend real time working on WebWeaver and the other Sapphire Moon circle sites. Besides, how could WebWeaver be human-edited if we weren't real people?!
Why don't you ask for donations?
It doesn't cost very much to run a website, despite what a lot of site owners will have people believe, and the fees involved in running a website are something that the site owner agrees to incur when s/he decides they want to create a web presence.
While some sites offer services in exhange for donations, the service that WebWeaver provides would be compromised if we accepted donations. Would results be returned because they are relevant or because the site owner dropped us a $20? By eliminating donations, fees, sponsored links in exchange for cash, etc. we eliminate this question entirely.
If you've considered donating, thanks a bunch, but simply placing a link to WebWeaver on your site or spreading the word about us will do just fine. Letting us know you appreciated WebWeaver enough to consider donating would make us feel all warm and fuzzy too.
Other sites have ads and affiliate links, where are yours?
Don't like them, they distract from useful information with clutter. Besides, if we allowed advertising, it would become unclear as to whether we were returning sites most relevant to search queries or if we were returning sites that bid the highest for certain "keywords".
Do you hate retail sites or something?
No, but we chose to focus on providing links to information, knowledge and community because, in our opinion, buying a cool new wand isn't what makes someone pagan / Wiccan / Master of the Occult Arts / Grand Poobah of the Water Buffalo / etc so retail sites are filtered out of results unless the querant checks "include retail sites" when entering a search term.
We also offer the WebWeaver Retail Directory, which is devoted to shopping sites plus an entire shopping category in the main directory which is broken down into subcategories for ease of use.
